All modules can be studied as stand-alone modules or as part of the full MSc. All modules on the course are delivered via distance learning so attendance at the university is not required and support is provided via our online learning environment, so access to a computer and a good internet connection is essential. Each of the modules are assessed on a subject relating to the module. They are submitted in a variety of formats. For example, PowerPoint presentation, critique of the literature submitted in a format suitable for a peer reviewed journal, a proposal for a service evaluation. All are submitted online.
The course starts again in September 2019 with the 30 credit module Collaborative Working in Symptom Management and this will focus on key aspects of patient assessment and management in Supportive Palliative and End of Life Care e.g. holistic needs assessment, symptom management, collaborative working and advance care planning. This is the first module on the MSc pathway, the second module is End of Life Decision Making which is also 30 credits and runs in January 2020. This completes the PgC stage and the first year of the course, a complete plan of study is detailed below.
The plan of study for the first year would be:
Collaborative Working in Symptom Management 30C and
End of Life Decision Making 30C
Year 2 would be
Loss Grief and Bereavement 15C and
Researching for Practice 15C
plus 30C elective module choice (to be negotiated)
Year 3
Dissertation 60C
The course is flexible and can be studied around full time working but would require a commitment to put in the study hours on an evening and at weekends.
I hope this helps. We can provide you further information about the PgD stage and the rest of the course if you would like.
Kind regards
Heather
